Section 179 Deduction

A federal tax provision allowing businesses to deduct the full purchase price of qualifying equipment in the year it's placed in service, rather than depreciating it over several years.

Section 179 can apply to equipment that’s purchased outright or financed, and in many cases to equipment under certain lease structures as well, letting a business take the full deduction upfront rather than spreading it over the asset’s useful life.

Limits and eligibility rules change periodically and depend on the business’s specific tax situation, so confirming current details with a tax professional, rather than assuming a prior year’s rules still apply, is the right way to plan around it.
