UCC Lien (UCC-1 Filing)

A public filing that gives a lender a legal claim to specified business assets until a debt is repaid.

A UCC-1 filing (named for the Uniform Commercial Code) is a legal notice a lender files to publicly establish their claim to specific business assets as collateral for a loan. It doesn’t take those assets away from you – it simply gives the lender priority claim to them if the debt isn’t repaid.

UCC liens are common with many types of business financing and are typically released once the associated debt is paid in full.
