Commercial Finance Lender License

A state-issued license some jurisdictions require before a company can lend to, or in some cases broker financing to, businesses within that state.

A growing number of states have introduced or expanded licensing requirements specifically for commercial lenders and brokers, generally intended to bring more oversight and consumer-style protection to business financing.

Which activities require a license, and under what conditions, varies by state and is an evolving area of regulation, so this is a general concept, not a statement of which states currently require licensing or under what terms; licensing status should be confirmed directly with each state’s relevant regulator or with legal counsel.
