Registered Agent
A person or company designated to receive official legal and government documents on behalf of a business, required for most LLCs and corporations.
A registered agent must have a physical address in the state where the business is registered and be available during normal business hours to accept service of process, tax notices, and other official correspondence.
Businesses can serve as their own registered agent or hire a third-party service, and keeping this designation current matters, since a missed legal notice due to an outdated registered agent can have serious consequences.
