Credit Bureau
An organization that collects and reports credit history and payment data, used by lenders to evaluate the creditworthiness of a business or individual.
Major personal credit bureaus include Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion, while business credit is tracked separately through bureaus like Dun & Bradstreet, Experian Business, and Equifax Business, each with somewhat different data sources and scoring models.
Because different bureaus can show different information, some lenders pull data from more than one during underwriting, and businesses can generally request and review their own reports to check for errors before applying for financing.
