Doing Business As (DBA)
A registered name a business operates under that's different from its owner's legal name or the business's official registered entity name.
A DBA (also called a fictitious business name or trade name) lets a business, including a sole proprietorship, operate and market itself under a different name than the one on its formation documents, without creating a separate legal entity.
Lenders and financial institutions generally want to see DBA registration on file when a business’s operating name doesn’t match its legal entity name, since it helps confirm the business’s identity matches what’s being represented in an application.
