Grace Period

A short window after a payment due date during which a late payment isn't yet considered in default or subject to a late fee.

A grace period gives a borrower a small cushion, often a matter of days, to make a payment after the official due date without immediate penalty, though interest may still accrue during that window depending on the loan.

Grace periods vary by lender and product and shouldn’t be relied upon as a standard part of a repayment plan, since consistently paying at the edge of a grace period can still create cash flow risk if a payment is ever missed entirely.
